What is it? Is it for my church?

Did you know that the 2016 edition of the Book of Discipline (in paragraph 247.2) the church, with approval from the District Superintendent, is given the opportunity to restructure in order to be more missionally focused? Over the years as churches began to take on this opportunity to restructure, the Simplified, Accountable Structure (SAS) emerged as the preferred model for mobilizing laity and focusing on mission.

To “simplify structure”, the four administrative committees (trustees, finance, staff-parish relations and council) cease to exist in their current form and are replaced by one Leadership Board of nine people with three-year terms.

As you might imagine this doesn’t happen overnight and there are many lessons learned to be shared to avoid common pitfalls and mistakes. There is also the “accountable” piece. What exactly does that mean?

If your local church is interested in exploring the Simplified, Accountable Structure register to attend this Intro and Q&A Session on November 9. Questions? Contact Cynthia Lopynski cynthialopynski@vaumc.org
