Servant Leadership

We’ve just started our Charge Conferences for this year and the theme is “servant leadership.”  As before, we’ll start with a hymn … “Here I Am Lord” … Have you ever really paid attention to the words?  They are very powerful!  Our Holy Conferencing is centered on the scripture passage from 1 Peter 4:10 …”Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”  And, together, we’ll examine the question … “How are we leading people to serve, and equipping people to use whatever gifts they have received to serve others as faithful stewards of God’s grace.”  It’s not complicated and it doesn’t take a theological degree to figure this out!

I keep going back to a certain ‘Lead Like Jesus’ devotional that seems to address this issue:

Stop.  Look around you.  This is the place where God wants you to lead like Jesus.  Are you in your home?  God wants you to surrender yourself and your day to Him, and to freely serve the people in your family with love.  Are you at work?  God has placed you here as a witness to the difference He makes in people’s lives.  Are you sitting in a public space?  The whole world is the Lord’s, and His heart beats for every person you see.  Jesus’ desire was to do the Father’s will and finish His work.  What about you?  God, open our eyes to the spheres of influence You have given us today.

So, are you a servant leader?  I hope so because God is depending on you!

Blessings,
John Meeuwissen, Lay Leader
