As we continue to look toward the Special Called 2019 General Conference, set for Feb. 23–26 in St. Louis, many of our churches are offering tangible ways to pray for the delegates and the work of that body.

Here are some of the things churches in our Districts are doing over the next few weeks:

St. Matthew’s UMC

St. Matthew’s will be praying for the delegates and the work of General Conference over that weekend. Join us before General Conference begins for an all-day prayer vigil on February 22 from 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. in the Chapel. Pray from anywhere by signing up to pray for General Conference. Learn more

Sydenstricker UMC

Sydenstricker UMC is offering the opportunity to pray for General Conference every 30 minutes throughout the time that they are in session. We have a prayer matrix and are soliciting people to sign up for time slots.

Warrenton UMC & Washington Street UMC

On Thursday, February 21, just before General Conference, Warrenton UMC is having a “Night of Sharing.”  Then on Sunday, February 24, they are having one service at 9:30 AM.  They will have a 20-30 minute gathering worship and introduction, then we will be released to pray in the sanctuary and downstairs in Memorial Hall at Prayer Stations.  Two of the prayer stations will include connections to Great Bridge UMC and Washington Street UMC.  Warrenton will have one computer set up and hooked into a video conferencing set up so folks from here can pray with folks there, and vice versa.  They will also have a computer opened at each of these sites where we will have folks type prayers into a Google Doc.  That afternoon, we will be sending the Google Doc of prayers to the delegates.

Haymarket Church

At Haymarket Church we will pause during worship on February 24 to have an intentional time of prayer to focus on the work of General Conference happening in St. Loius at that very moment, as well as all that is before the delegates. Our weekly email the previous week will also focus specifically on the General Conference, and invite readers to focus their prayers for the week on the work before that body.
