P/T Christian Education Coordinator: St John’s UMC in Springfield, VA, is seeking an experienced individual to plan, initiate and oversee its Christian education programs for children, youth and adults. This individual will work under the supervision of the Pastor and in coordination with other members of the church staff and volunteers. Programs will include, but are not limited to, weekly programs that are primarily led by volunteers, as well as special events and seasonal (Advent and Lent) programs. An understanding of the United Methodist Church structure and the general philosophy of Christian Education is strongly desired. While a degree in Christian Education, United Methodist Studies or similar discipline is preferred, relevant hands-on experience in similar positions may be substituted for a degree. Strong interpersonal skills, and effective verbal and written communication skills are essential. P/T Handbell and Instrumental Music Leader: Messiah United Methodist Church, a community of faith with an exceptional music tradition in Springfield, Virginia is seeking a professional to serve as the part-time Handbell and Instrumental Music Leader. This person will be part of a team bringing music into the life of the church while continuing to grow our community. The Handbell/Instrumental Music Leader will lead children, youth, and adults in age and skill appropriate choirs in expressing their faith and a love for the Lord through ringing. The handbell choirs will work independently and in concert with the greater music program. Working under the direction of the Director of Music Ministry, the incumbent will be able to work with an Organist/Accompanist, a Children’s Choir Leader, several staff musicians, and additional contract musicians as warranted. An important part of this position is introducing young children to music through ringing. As time and ability permits the Handbell Music Leader will stand-up and lead instrumental groups.
