Summer camp has finished for the year, and we are so grateful we were able to serve our campers and their families again! We went into this summer intentionally planning for a low year due to the pandemic. This made it easier to plan and to inform parents and staff what our summer would look like for them. Over seven weeks of different camp offerings we had 35 overnight campers and 109 day campers – totaling 144. We had eight summer staff who split their time as counselors for groups and helping with the general work and cleaning around camp.
All of them started in previous summers with us as Counselors in Training – a position for rising juniors and seniors in high school during our summer camps. It was a great summer – we were thrilled that we nearly had 100% capacity of our offered camper spots – and we are excited for what next year will bring as we will start that planning process soon!
We are also excited to welcome a new member to our full-time staff: Nick Early. He will be joining us as the Program Manager – overseeing the maintenance of all activity areas and assisting with the maintenance of the other camp facilities. He will also be overseeing the training of future program facilitators.
As we look ahead, we continue to do some much-needed projects around camp to maintain our facilities. Thanks to donations from Churches and individuals we have been able to schedule contractors to work on some of the larger projects. Currently, we are having a new hood and kitchen fire suppression systems in the Oak Lodge and Main Camp kitchens – done by Winchester Restaurant Equipment. We are also getting a new flight of stairs leading into the dining hall! This project will be done by Outdoor Spaces in Leesburg. This month our staff is working on installing a new roof on our shop. Thank you for keeping Camp Highroad in your prayers and for all the support you have and continue to show us as we serve our community. We continue to reach new people thanks to your support.
