Vision Statement

BELOVED DISCIPLESHIP is a discipleship training experience at the intersection of the mission of Jesus Christ to go into all the world, from our front door and beyond and to make disciples, irrespective of ethnicity, class, culture or background. It is an opportunity to create the beloved community and develop the body of Christ.

Purpose

BELOVED DISCIPLESHIP is a discipleship development opportunity to help congregations design and implement contextually relevant discipleship process and executable discipleship plan to grow disciples both in the congregation and in the increasingly diverse communities, with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Design Team

The design team is responsible for developing the learning goals and practicums and will also facilitate the monthly engagements. The Team members are:

What church should consider this leadership development opportunity?

Churches that are ready to engage in developing discipleship process and a plan to disciple members in the congregation and neighbors in the community who may or may not look like them

 

What are the expectations?

  • The Church will select a discipleship ministry team which includes the pastor and 4-5 laity
  • The ministry team will be expected to participate in all online modules, and commit to the required assignments and practicum work
  • Upon completion, each team will have the building blocks to begin developing their discipleship process and plan.

How is this training organized?

Beloved Discipleship is a self-paced course you and your team can attend online. Each module consists of content for each step of developing a discipleship plan, resources to enhance your learning, a quiz to help you measure your understanding of each topic, an assignment that gradually reinforces your learning and plan development, group discussion to promote shared learning and input from your instructor, and a practicum to aid in team plan development. As you progress in the course and complete a module, the following module will automatically open, allowing you to continue the course at your teams’ pace. Each module will stand on its own as a potential activity to conduct with the congregation. The online experience fits the model of other leadership development opportunities in the Bi-District like SHIFT Plus and Neighborhood Seminary and has shown to increase potential fruit within the congregation.

 

The learning includes:

    • Module 1 – Welcome to Beloved Discipleship
    • Module 2 – Understanding the Intersection of Discipleship and Beloved Community
    • Module 3 – How do we build relationships with those who are different from us?
    • Module 4 – Who can we reach with the gospel to grow in their spiritual growth and development in ways that are timely?
    • Module 5 – How do we make disciples?
    • Module 6 – How do we understand our community in order to live out the gospel with them?
    • Module 7 – How to develop best practices in discipleship?

What is the timeframe and cost for BELOVED DISCIPLESHIP?

Beloved Discipleship is self-paced but should be completed in 12 months. The course is free, however, if your church would like help in the process of developing a plan and a process for your own discipleship ministry, coaches are available at a rate of $150 per hour.

 What are the expectations?

    • The Church will select a discipleship ministry team which includes the pastor and 4-5 laity in the congregation.

How can my church apply for this discipleship development opportunity?

To apply, a church must complete an application. The application must demonstrate a readiness for engagement around diversity and discipleship. Applications are accepted at any time, but each application must be approved in order to have access to the course.
