December 11 | March 31 | June 2

1:00 p.m. — 5:00 p.m.

at The Church of the Good Shepherd

(2351 Hunter Mill Road, Vienna, VA 22181)

Your District Superintendents want to offer Arlington and Alexandria Clergy time apart from your regular routines and pastoral obligations. They have set aside three afternoons to gather for worship and prayer.

During these afternoons we will worship together take time to center and focus on Christ.

March 31 Afternoon Apart

The purpose is to create a time and space where clergy can come, set aside the busyness of the Lent season and the anxieties around the future of the church.  It is designed to be flexible so that each person can obtain what they need from this time. The day will open and close with worship, in the middle there will be opportunities to participate in optional activities for deeper spiritual reflection and renewal.

This is a time to get out of your office to plan and organize as well as a time for clergy spiritual renewal.

The schedule for the day is as follows:

  • Opening Worship – Communion
  • Stations of the Cross
  • Create a Pentecost Worship Experience
  • Closing Worship

The Sanctuary will be open from 1:30 to 4:15 for silent reflection. A coffee service and light refreshments will be served outside the Sanctuary. There will be spaces available for those who would like to meet with or talk with others. A quiet room will also be set aside to read a book, work on a sermon, plan future sermons, etc.

The planned activities will be in an assigned room.

This is the second of three Afternoons Apart. Clergy are encouraged to share a meal with their clergy peer learning group or other clergy friends before coming.

Mark your calendars for December 11, March 31, and June 2 as we prepare for all that is to come.
